The Origin of PPSC Counsel
I built the law firm I always wanted to hire.
I had started questioning a lot of the things the profession treats as fixed. I have never been particularly interested in the status quo, and the longer I practiced, the more convinced I became that sophisticated legal work does not have to come wrapped in distance, unnecessary formality or delay simply because that is how law firms have always operated.
I believe I can advocate fiercely for clients without becoming a roadblock to the businesses they are trying to build. I can identify risk without making fear the strategy. I can protect the company and still help people get to yes. I can be rigorous, thoughtful and exceptionally good at what I do without treating personality as something that undermines credibility.
I have always practiced that way.
I get involved. I want to understand the business, the people behind it and what is actually at stake. I want to know why the deal matters before I start changing the language. I pick up the phone. I ask questions. I care about the outcome, not just the document. I know when to push, when to protect and when everyone is better served by finding a practical path forward.
And somewhere along the way, I started questioning the idea of being “outside counsel” at all.
Because the best legal relationships I have been part of never felt particularly outside. They felt connected. Invested. Like the lawyer was part of the conversation rather than standing at the edge of the room explaining why something could not be done.
That is the modern lawyer I believe businesses deserve.
Smart. Fiercely loyal. Practical. Curious. Kind. Genuinely interested.
And someone you might actually enjoy working with.
Because being seen matters. Being kind matters. Human connection matters. The profession is exceptionally good at proving expertise, but expertise is only part of what makes someone a trusted advisor. People remember who understood them. Who answered the call. Who made the introduction. Who stayed curious. Who showed up when it mattered.
The goal is not less lawyer. It is more time for the parts of lawyering that actually matter: judgment, advocacy, creativity, perspective, trust and connection.
I realized I did not need to become a different kind of lawyer.
I needed to build a different kind of law firm.
One built around the way I had always practiced. Close to the business. Invested in the people. Fiercely protective when it matters. Practical when it does not. Willing to question the traditional model when the traditional model no longer serves the client.
Keep the rigor. Break the mold.
Take the work seriously. Advocate fiercely. Be a good human. And have some fun doing it.
Because life is a journey, and if you are going to spend this much of it working with a lawyer, the experience should matter too.
That is the law firm I always wanted to hire.
So I built it.
Purpose. Perspective. Strategic. Clarity.
That is PPSC Counsel.
But it is only half the story.
Before there was PPSC Counsel, there was Pink Panther Social Club, an idea built around bringing good people together, making the introduction, sharing what you know, saving the extra seat and remembering that some of the most important things in business still happen because human beings connect.
That story deserves its own room.
PPSC may be founder-led, but it did not come to life alone. Lawyering may sometimes look like a solo sport from the outside, but the best work never is.
A trusted circle of friends, advisors, clients, creatives, and professional instigators saw what I was building before it was obvious, gave the thing a name before it had a shape, pressure-tested the ideas, sharpened the edges, made introductions, and gave the kind of honest feedback that improves the work without dulling the spirit behind it.
They challenged me without asking me to become smaller, quieter, safer, or easier to explain. They talked me off the occasional ledge, lent me their confidence when I needed to borrow it, and encouraged just enough strategic chaos to get this thing into the real world.
Their names have been withheld in the interest of witness protection. But you know who you are. Your fingerprints are all over this—in the best possible way. I know exactly what each of you gave me, and PPSC would not be the same without it. 💕
